Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has given countless blockbuster films that people still love to watch. Films like Sholay Deewar Don Agneepath Zanjeer Amar Akbar Anthony and the list goes on. While Amitabh dominated the film industry during his prime. But did you know even a top actor like Big B once gave a flop film? Yes you read it right Amitabh Bachchan who is known for his versatile acting even his film once failed to make an impression at the box office. Amitabh Bachchans film Ajooba is considered one of the biggest flops of Bollywood. The film was released in India in 1991 and was Shashi Kapoors dream project in which Amitabh Bachchan played the role of a masked superhero. However the film was released in Russia in July 1990. Made with a huge budget of about Rs 8 crore the film was an ambitious experiment in that era in which there was a collaboration with Soviet filmmakers. The film also had big stars like Rishi Kapoor Dimple Kapadia Sonam Khan and Dara Singh but the film flopped badly at the box office. Amitabh Bachchans Ajooba was set in a fantasy world where Amitabhs character Ajooba tries to save his kingdom from an evil sorcerer (Amrish Puri). The film had a lot of stunts and special effects but they failed to impress the audience. Its weak direction strange story and old style were criticised a lot. As a result the film was able to recover only Rs 3.50 crore from its budget of Rs 8 crore. Interestingly Shashi Kapoor only wanted to produce the film and wanted his brother Raj Kapoor to direct it. But due to Raj Kapoors ill health he had to take over the direction himself. Amitabh Bachchan had suggested him to do so. But this experiment could not succeed. This film is still remembered in Bollywood as a lesson that even big stars and huge budgets are not a guarantee of success.
