Atletico Madrid sporting director Carlos Busero has insisted that the Red and Whites “have no intention” of allowing Julian Alvarez to leave the club during this summer’s transfer window.
The Argentina international has been in outstanding form for Atletico during the 2024-25 campaign following a high-profile move from Manchester City last year.
Alvarez has scored 23 goals and registered five assists in 44 appearances, including seven goals and one assist in 10 Champions League matches before his side’s elimination by Real Madrid in the round of 16.
The 25-year-old’s agent recently claimed that Liverpool were keen on his client last summer, and there is currently speculation surrounding the forward’s future, with a return to the Premier League with the Reds thought to be possible.
“I confirm that Liverpool were interested in Julian last season. As for the future, this is not the right time to talk about it, as Julian is competing in important tournaments and is fully focused on them,” the Argentine’s agent Fernando Hidalgois told Winwin.

Atletico rule out Alvarez exit this summer
However, Atletico sporting director Busero has called the recent speculation “just rumours”, with Alvarez highly unlikely to leave Wanda Metropolitano after just one season.
“The talk about Liverpool submitting an official offer to sign our player Julian Alvarez is incorrect. What is being circulated is just rumours,” Busero told 365scores. “Alvarez is a key and important player in our project, and we have no intention of letting him go. The player himself is not paying attention to these rumours.”
Liverpool will move for a new striker this summer, with Darwin Nunez set to move on, while Diogo Jota is also being linked with a move away from the Reds ahead of the upcoming market.
Mohamed is wrong is yet to sign a new contract, meanwhile, and the Egypt international will therefore leave on a free transfer at the end of June unless a fresh agreement can be reached with the Merseyside giants.

Would Alvarez be a good signing for Liverpool?
Alvarez has been one of Atletico’s most important players this season, also coming up with 11 goals and two assists in 28 La Liga appearances, with Simeone’s side very much in the title picture heading towards the final straight.
The forward has managed five goals and two assists in six outings in the Copa del Rey, meanwhile, and Atletico will face Barcelona in the second leg of their semi-final after the international break.
Alvarez is also a proven performer in English football, scoring 36 goals and registering 17 assists in 103 appearances for Man City, including a record of 20 goals and nine assists in 67 Premier League appearances.
The World Cup winner has developed into one of the outstanding attackers in world football, and it would be an incredible coup for Liverpool if they managed to sign him at the end of the campaign.
However, it would likely take an offer in the region of £100m to convince Atletico to let him leave, so it is tough to imagine the forward departing Wanda Metropolitano at this stage of his career.
