New Delhi: India all-rounder Riyan Parag who was kept by Rajasthan Royals for INR 14 crore prior to the major auction last November issued a caution to rival teams for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). On Wednesday during a practice match for Rajasthan ahead of the forthcoming IPL season Parag delivered an impressive performance that nearly surpassed KL Rahuls five-year-old record in the league.
In anticipation of the IPL 2025 all franchises have commenced their training camps following Indias Champions Trophy performance. Some teams have even organized intra-squad practice matches. On Wednesday Rajasthan held such a match and they posted a video on social media showing Parag returning to the dugout to the applause of his teammates. The video highlighted his impressive innings where he scored an unbeaten 144 runs off 64 balls including 10 sixes and 16 fours.
If Parag had reached that score during an IPL match he would have surpassed Rahuls record for the highest individual score by an Indian player in the tournaments history. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter set an unbeaten score of 132 for the Punjab team against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2020 which is currently the fifth-highest score overall in IPL history.
The right-handed player is set to participate in IPL 2025 after recovering from a shoulder injury that kept him out of action for three months including missing the four-match T20I series against South Africa. He made his comeback in a single match for Assam in the Ranji Trophy.
Parags impressive score of 144* in the practice match is likely to significantly boost his morale and instill confidence as he aims to replicate his performance from IPL 2024 which earned him a spot on the Indian team. In the previous season he accumulated 573 runs with an average of 52.09 and a strike rate of 149.22.
