Dwarka Expressway: A major entry point of the Rs 9,000 crore Dwarka Expressway has been shut for 44 days due to urgent repair work. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has closed the elevated service road entry at Daulatabad Chowk towards Delhi to replace damaged expansion joints. The issue started after an accident in January caused damage, leading to temporary fixes. 

But there will now be a full replacement to ensure long-term durability. The repair is most likely to be completed by April 30. It is expected to cause traffic congestion, as vehicles are now diverted to a surface road, which is already in poor condition.

The affected section is the entry from the elevated service road at Daulatabad Chowk towards Delhi. Commuters from Sector 99 to 106 and nearby areas like Dhankot, Basai, and Kherki Majra will have to take an alternative route.

Traffic will now be diverted to the surface road, which is already in bad condition. This is expected to cause hectic traffic, especially during peak hours.

As per moneycontrol, this issue started after an accident in January 2024, which caused damage to the expansion joints. NHAI conducted temporary repairs at the time. But after further inspection, they found that a complete replacement was necessary for the long-term safety of the structure.

The repair work is expected to take 44 days, with the road reopening after April 30, 2025.

The Dwarka Expressway is a major route, carrying nearly one lakh vehicles daily. Because of this expansion, a large portion of traffic will be redirected to the surface road. This road is already in poor condition and heavily used by vehicles from:

• Old Railway Road
• Daulatabad Road
• New Palam Vihar Extension

Because of this rising issue, commuters should prepare for longer travel times and heavy congestion.

This is not the first time the Dwarka expressway has had issues. Despite being a newly constructed project, there have been multiple concerns:

• In July 2024, just four months after opening, a 70-meter stretch near Sector 102 developed cracks, raising doubts about construction quality. (as per times now)
• Regular maintenance problems have troubled daily commuters, leading to frustration and delays.

The latest closure for repairs has once again highlighted the need for better planning and long-lasting infrastructure. Commuters should plan their routes accordingly, as there will be heavy traffic.
