Raichur: Gold ornaments worth lakhs were stolen from the historic Mahalakshmi Temple in Kallur, Sirwar Taluk, on Wednesday, March 19 night.

The thieves stole over Rs 25 lakh worth of gold jewelry adorning the deity, including an 80-gram Venkateshwara Swamy crown, a 30-gram Lakshmi crown, 140-gram foot ornaments, and a 40-gram pendant, totaling 290 grams of gold.

Despite the presence of such valuable ornaments, the temple management had not installed CCTV cameras, making it easier for the culprits to break in and commit the theft.

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Sirwar Police Station. Additional Superintendent of Police Harish visited the temple and conducted an inspection.
