Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams had been stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) for the last nine months. On June 5, 2024, they set out for space for an eight-day mission. When their Starliner capsule experienced propulsion problems, they were compelled to stay longer. The two have created headlines worldwide after they were able to fly back to Earth on March 19.
Amul, renowned for its imaginative and relevant graphics, has honoured them with a special topical in response to the international attention their safe homecoming has garnered. In the illustration, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are seen waving as they emerge from the space capsule’s hatch and recline on mobility aids.
With one hand, Sunita Williams gives a thumbs-up. Amul uses puns and wordplay in its topical as usual. Above it are the words, “Truly Astonishing." This alludes to how amazing it is that the astronaut pair survived for so long in space when they had anticipated landing back on Earth in a matter of days.
“This ISS wonderful." appears at the bottom of the illustration. Referring, Ito SS for the International Space Station. “#Amul Topical: Sunita Williams returns after 9 months in space!" the caption of the now-viral post reads.
Within a few hours, the post garnered over 1,700 likes and several comments.
A user said, “How creative."
Another commented, “Amul never misses a beat! An astonishingly creative take on Sunita Williams’ return—spreading buttery joy even beyond Earth!"
Meanwhile, heart and love emojis were also shared by a few users.
Amul often commemorates significant victories for many teams, organisations, and individuals. A topical for the Indian men’s cricket team’s triumph at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was earlier released by the brand.
“Always unbeaten, never uneaten. Champions chomp it," was the text on the image.
The illustration showed the famous Amul girl next to captain Rohit Sharma. With a slice of bread coated with butter in one hand, Rohit proudly holds the ICC Trophy in the other.
