According to a BFI release, the draw for the 8th Elite Women National Boxing Championships, which will take place at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida from March 21–27, set the stage for a week-long exhibition of the thrilling match between the region’s top boxers and up-and-coming talent.
There will be 188 boxers fighting in 10 weight classes from 24 state federations and organizations. IOA President PT Usha, world champion and elite female boxer Nikhat Zareen, and other Olympians will be there to support the fighters.
Olympian Jaismine (57 kg), World Champion Nitu Ghanghas (48 kg), two-time world youth champion Sakshi (54 kg), former national champion Poonam Poonia (57 kg), 2018 World Championship bronze medallist Simranjit Kaur (65 kg), former World Champion Medallist Sonia Lather (60 kg), and Anamika (51 kg) will be leading the charge in their respective weight categories.
Olympian Pooja Rani, representing Haryana, and Anupama of the RSPB, who won the silver medal at the Strandja Memorial, will compete in the higher weight divisions, with both competing in the same side of the 80 kg weight class.
The National Championships are an important turning point in a boxer’s career since they provide them the chance to compete on the highest stage and offer them opportunities for international competitions.
Pema Bhutia of Sikkim, Preeti of the All India Police, Kalaivani S of Tamil Nadu, a past Nationals medalist, and others will be taking on these well-known celebrities.
On Friday, competition will begin in all ten categories, with a total of forty-four fights planned over two sessions.
