The para-badminton competition kicked off the first day of the Khelo India Para Games 2025 (KIPG 2025) in New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Stadium.
There was a buzz in the air when athletic activity began at the stadium on Thursday, with 2024 Paralympic stars Nitesh Kumar, Manisha Ramdass, and Tokyo Paralympics Gold medalist Krishna Nagar in action, according to a press release.
According to the SAI media release, Nagar started the day in the preliminary rounds and easily qualified for the quarterfinals by defeating Bonta Goutham Narasimhudu in back-to-back games.
The media and current admirers turned out in large numbers to see the star performer in action after Nitesh made a big splash when he entered the field of play. The Haryana athlete also maintained his impressive play against Hemant Kumar Thakur, winning 2-0 to advance in the competition.
Nitesh discussed the significance of the Khelo India Para Games 2025, saying, “My participation at this tournament is mainly to contribute to the sport that has always given me a lot of things, not just with success, but also to grow my confidence even in the profiles outside sport.”
The crowd was captivated by the badminton activity, which kept the sports action going all day long with 69 matches. Following the Opening Ceremony, the competition moved to the Gymnastics Hall at IG Stadium, where Manisha, the bronze medallist from the 2024 Paralympics, faced Vaishali Nilesh Patel in the quarterfinals.
On the opening day of KIPG 2025, the para shuttler also achieved a decisive victory to guarantee the top competitors a smooth ride.
