In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, cricket lovers will get a chance to enjoy exciting matches. Like every year, some special rules have been implemented this time, which all teams and players will have to follow. The BCCI has also announced these rules, which have new rules like using two balls in the second innings from removing the ban on the use of saliva. But there are some rules which are intact this time like every year and the most important of these is the deadline and additional time related rules.

The 18th season of the IPL will start from Saturday 22 March and in the very first match of the season, the current champion Kolkata Knight Riders will face Royal Challengers Bangalore. This match will be played at the Home Ground Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. But rain is hovering over this match. Kolkata also received rain on Friday and it is estimated on Saturday, which is expected to disturb the match.

What is the rule of extra time?

Now every year, some matches of IPL are rained by rain and this year also there is every possibility of this. In such a situation, it is important to know what rules the BCCI has made for this, according to the rules of IPL, an additional time of one hour is given in league stage matches. Its purpose is to ensure that the match can be completed in any kind of interruption or delay.

Cut-off time: According to the rules of T20 cricket, it is necessary to have a game of at least 5-5 overs to achieve the result of any match. In such a situation, if there is a delay in the league stage match in the IPL for some reason, then the cut-off time has been set at 10:56 pm for the 5-over match. This means that the game must start by this time.

Additional time: The evening matches in the IPL are from 7.30 am and it should be finished by 11 am according to the fixed period. But to complete the match in the event of rain, it will have to be completed by 12:06 pm. If the match is not completed in the scheduled time, appropriate decision will be taken by the umpire and the match referee.

DLS will be decided by target or match

If the match is delayed due to rain, poor light or any other reason, then the number of overs is reduced. But in any case, this number cannot be less than 5 overs per innings. The Duckworth-Louis Rules (DLS) are used in the event of overs. However, the purpose of the extra time is to ensure that the match can be completed and the audience gets full thrill experience.
