As Bill Skarsgard returns to the big screen in the thrilling new film Locked, fans are eager to learn more about the actor's life off-camera.

In Locked, Skarsgard portrays Eddie, a small-time thief whose plan to steal a luxury SUV goes awry when he realises it's been booby-trapped by an unseen vigilante named William, played by Anthony Hopkins.

As the film comes out on Friday, March 21, here's everything there is to know about Locked's leading man Bill Skarsgard.

Famous family

Skarsgard hails from a family of accomplished actors as his father, Stellan Skarsgard, has starred in numerous successful films including Dancer In The Dark, Dune, Breaking The Waves, Nymphomaniac, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Mamma Mia franchise.

Bill's brothers have also made their mark in Hollywood: Alexander Skarsgard is known for his roles in Zoolander, Big Little Lies, Lee and The Legend of Tarzan, but is perhaps best recognised as Eric Northman from the vampire drama True Blood.

Gustaf Skarsgard has appeared in Oppenheimer, Evil, HBO's Westworld, Curse and Vikings, where he played Floki.

Meanwhile, Vlater Skarsgard's credits include Beck, Katla, A Class Apart and Lords of Chaos.

Homelessness

Despite thinking of Sweden as their home, the Skarsgard family are often on the move, resulting in 34-year-old Bill not having a permanent residence.

In a candid revelation to Mr Porter in 2017, Bill Skarsgard disclosed: "I'm essentially homeless. Seven years I've not had a home.

"I literally live out of a suitcase. That's my life. What's in the suitcase kind of changes with the seasons, but I'm pretty good at travelling light. I've been doing it all my adult life."

Sharing more about his transient lifestyle during an intimate chat with his sibling Alexander for Interview magazine, Bill confessed: "I think it's a commitment issue for me. I have a hard time committing to stuff."

The inclination towards a nomadic life seems to be a family trait as Alexander concurred: "What's wrong with us? I'm also homeless.

"Maybe it's a fear of missing out. Like, if I commit to one city and get a place there, then maybe there is something else out there."

Loneliness

When it comes to his professional life, Bill's most monumental role to date has undoubtedly been portraying Pennywise the terrifying clown in the Stephen King adaptation of It.

Transforming into Pennywise was no small feat and necessitated Bill being apart from fellow cast and crew.

Confiding in NME, he said: "I had the little Pennywise tent with my Pennywise squad: the prosthetics guys, the costume supervisor, the contact lens tech.

"I was in this very uncomfortable make-up and suit. So I very much kept to myself.

"The role required intense concentration and focus from me. It was certainly the loneliest film shoot I've ever done. I was so isolated."

Skarsgard revealed that he was intentionally isolated from the main cast, noting: "My co-workers were all kids and they got really tight and became best friends on the shoot.

"There was this huge build-up of anticipation for them. That was deliberate.

"They'd met me once at the read-through, so they didn't really know me either. We were trying to create some sort of tension that would translate into the movie."

What's next

Skarsgard's schedule is jam-packed with an array of upcoming projects, as seen on his IMDb page.

He's set to return as the terrifying Pennywise in the horror prequel series It: Welcome to Derry, which is currently in post-production.

Additionally, he'll appear alongside Al Pacino and Colman Domingo in the crime drama Dead Man's Wire, join Nicholas Cage in the thriller Lords of War, and star in the action-packed Emperor, slated for release next year, featuring Adrian Brody, Paz Vega, and Oliver Platt.

Moreover, Skarsgard is involved in The Death Of Robin Hood, which boasts a stellar cast including Jodie Comer and Hugh Jackman.

Locked is available to watch in cinemas.
