Whether a book or film everything is always interesting when it has a good plot with mystery suspense and a story to go along with it. The latest attempt is Puneet Sharma’s Baida made in collaboration with actor writer and producer of the film Sudhanshu Rai. Baida uniquely incorporates black magic sci-fi and psychological elements into one movie which makes it much more appealing. We are all invited to a wonderful yet frightening journey through time which takes us to places where reality meets fantasy. This marks yet another addition on the list of March 21 2025 releases. The film is 109 minutes long but does it live up to the expectations? Lets see what we uncover. The narrative centers on Ram Babu (Sudhanshu Rai) who is an ex target killer for intelligence agencies but currently works as a salesman for a tractor company. One remote village in Eastern UP changed everything for him. One night while driving through the village he gets lost in the thick dark and decides to spend the night at a strangers cottage (Sourabh Raaj Jain) only to later wake up in British India staring at an Indian soldier and British inspector who were preparing him for execution. How did he make it there? Will he escape? More importantly How will he get back to the present? What Works for Baida? Baida has all the elements that could make a supernatural thriller truly gripping. The film presents a unique concept of time travel intertwined with supernatural forces. Actor Sudhanshu Rai along with his strong screen presence as the protagonist portrays the character remarkably. Rais rapport with Shobhit Sujay is one of the best in the film because like in Chaipatti and Chintaa Mani these two have formed a working chemistry. The pair goes far in supporting the plot. TV stars Sourabh Raaj Jain and Hiten Tejwani also weigh in helping to carry the film with their experience in telling stories. This makes all the more powerful the eerie and grim moments which Baida relies on. Showing an interesting premise Baida does not have a tight grasp on it everything feels all over the place. In terms of pacing there are major discrepancies. Sometimes it is engaging and effective with the build up of the tension and sometimes it is slack and unengaging. Final Verdict: Should You Watch It? Despite its flaws Baida is a film that brings a mix of supernatural and thriller elements. If you enjoy movies that keep you guessing and take you on a journey of twists and turns this one deserves a shot. If you loved films like Stree or Tumbbad you might find Baida an interesting addition to your watchlist. It might not be a perfect film but it certainly offers a unique cinematic experience.
