New Delhi. Just a few hours before the start of the Indian Premier League 2025, the government has run a tough whip on online gaming platforms. Strict action has been taken on foreign online gaming platforms by the GST Intelligence Directorate General working under the Finance Ministry. DGGI has blocked around 357 illegal online gaming websites. Along with this, about 2400 accounts have also been seized.

Apart from taking action on foreign online gaming website, the Finance Ministry has alerted people to stay away from foreign online gaming forums. It was said on behalf of the ministry that if cricketers or Bollywood celebrities also support these platforms only then do not come to their clutches.

According to the information given by the Finance Ministry, around 700 foreign e-gaming companies are currently under the scrutiny of the Directorate General of Services Tax, ie DGGI. These are companies who have not yet registered and are stealing GST. Investigation has also revealed that these online gaming companies are resorting to fake bank accounts to lane. About 2400 accounts have been seized in two different cases by DGGI.

DGGI has banned the withdrawal of Rs 126 crore with immediate effect on illegal online gaming platforms. The action was taken by the government in collaboration with the I4C and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Apart from warning the public, the Finance Ministry has also asked famous personality and social media influencers not to promote such online gaming platforms from such platforms. Three people associated with this case have also been arrested.
