KKR and RCB are facing off at Eden Gardens in Kolkata for the first game of IPL 2025. The defending champions and three-time winners are taking on the three-time finalists to start off the 18th edition of the tournament that began way back in 2008. That time too, these two sides had played the opener.

Rajat Patidar is leading RCB for the first time while KKR have Ajinkya Rahane at the helm. But this game is of special significance for one person and that is none other than Virat Kohli. In fact, even before a ball was bowled, Kohli entered the history books as the first Indian to achieve a remarkable feat.

What Is the Record?

The moment the toss took place, Kohli became the first Indian cricketer to feature in 400 T20s, 300 ODIs and 100 Tests. He recently joined the 300 club in ODIs when he faced New Zealand in India’s last group match during the Champions Trophy. His 100th Test was against Sri Lanka in 2022. As of now, the 36-year-old has played 302 ODIs, 400 T20s and 123 Tests.

Kohli’s T20 debut was for Delhi in 2007 while his T20I debut came in 2010 vs Zimbabwe. His IPL debut was in 2008. He has scored a total of 12,886 T20 runs with nine centuries and 97 fifties. Only three Indians have played 400 T20s so far. Rohit Sharma has appeared in 448 games while Rahane has featured in 413. Kohli has joined this list.

Kohli Is 'King' in This Tournament

When it comes to the IPL, Kohli is on top of his game. His leads the run tally with 8004 and is far from the rest of the pack?. He also tops the list of most hundreds with eight. He has played only for RCB since the first season and is one of the few players in IPL 2025 who played back in 2008. His 973 runs in 2016 still tops the charts when it comes most runs in a single IPL season.

Kohli has never won an IPL title. He played the finals in 2009 and 2011 as a player before leading the side in the 2016 summit clash. But on all occasions RCB fell while trying to cross the final hurdle. Will the title drought end in 2025? Let's wait and watch.
