Netflix to offer Prince Harry and Meghan Markle new contract after £77.2m one finishes

and have been offered a new contract for another documentary which would follow the story of Princess Diana's death. The documentary would mark the 30th anniversary of her passing, says a source. It would air in 2027 as part of a new Netflix deal for the .

Princess Diana died in August 1997 in Paris after she was involved in a car crash. A Los Angeles source said: "The idea is that it would be a solo project for Harry, who would be a co-executive producer as well as hosting and narrating the series."

The source continued: "He is uniquely placed, not only to talk about the woman he knew as his mother, but also to examine her role as an enduring social and cultural icon still beloved by so many."

At the moment, nothing has been agreed but the idea of the series is being talked about in a positive way, says the source, who added: "Harry might even see it as a stepping stone to building bridges with William and the rest of his ."

's generous £77.2million agreement with the streaming giant, signed in 2020, comes to an end this year.

But this new series could be the start of a fresh contract with Netflix interested to continue a partnership with the couple.

's new series with the streaming giant, With Love, Meghan, came out this spring with many rushing to the platform to see the latest documentary.

The lifestyle and cookery series cracked the Netflix top 10 list, landing at number six in both the UK and US.

Netflix co-chief executive officer Ted Sarandos - who has previously described Harry and Meghan as "the jewels in our crown" - last week hit back at poor reviews of the Duchess's new show.

He said: "We're a passive partner in 's company and it's a big discovery model for us right now."

The series was met with mixed reviews, it faced some negative criticism but others enjoyed following Meghan's recipes and lifestyle tips.
