Fenerbahce’s striker Dzeko breaks nose during national game

Fenerbahce‘s Bosnian forward, Edin Dzeko, suffered an injury to his nose during a national team match on Friday evening. The experienced footballer is expected to arrive in Istanbul on Tuesday for further examination by the club’s medical team.

According to information provided by the Turkish Super Lig club, Dzeko sustained the injury to his nose during Bosnia and Herzegovina’s match against Romania. As a result, he will miss Bosnia’s upcoming match against the Republic of Cyprus in the 2026 FIFA World Cup European qualifiers.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s head coach, Sergej Barbarez, spoke about Dzeko’s condition after the match. He mentioned that he wasn’t fully aware of the severity of the injury but believed that Dzeko’s nose had been broken. “I think Edin Dzeko’s nose is broken. He wasn’t in the dressing room. I don’t have full information yet,” Barbarez stated.

What happened during the match?

Bosnia and Herzegovina faced Romania in their first match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Fenerbahce’s veteran striker, Edin Dzeko, started the game in the starting lineup.

Despite Bosnia securing a 1-0 victory, Dzeko was unable to continue after suffering an injury to his nose. The injury forced him to leave the field at the 46th minute. Although Dzeko’s nose is broken, the experienced forward will not require surgery.
