Delhi University is expanding after decades. Veer Savarkar College, established in Najafgarh, is equipped with modern facilities. New courses and campuses will bring a big change in education.
Delhi University (DU) is taking necessary steps towards its expansion after a gap of almost three decades. The admission process will start in Veer Savarkar College located in the Roshanpura area of Najafgarh from this academic session. This newly built college is located just five minutes away from the western campus of DU.
New institute equipped with modern facilities
DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh shared information about this important decision in the 92nd Annual Court Meeting held on Friday. This new college has been developed with an investment of Rs 140 crore. The total built-up area of the college is 18,816.56 square metres, where the following state-of-the-art facilities are available:
- 24 classrooms and 8 tutorial rooms
- 40 teacher rooms and a departmental library
- Conference room and mess
According to the Directorate of Education, this new college has been established with the aim of meeting the growing demand for higher education in Delhi.
Development of new campuses in progress
In addition to Veer Savarkar College, DU is developing two more new campuses:
1. East Campus – at Surajmal Vihar
2. West Campus – at Dwarka Sector 22
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of these new campuses on January 3, 2025. The main objective of these expansion plans is to reduce student pressure on the existing colleges and provide advanced academic facilities to the students.
Increase in admission numbers
In the academic year 2024-25, a total of 2,46,194 applications were received for 79 undergraduate courses offered in 69 colleges of DU. Students registered more than 1.72 crore course preferences during the admission process. This year 70,422 students were successfully admitted to various courses.
New Academic Programs
DU is also starting several new courses in this academic session, the major ones being:
- MTech (Computer Science)
- BA (Hons) Russian Language
- DM (Geriatric Mental Health and Pulmonology)
- MSc (Psychiatry - Mental Health)
Faculty Appointments and Infrastructure Development:-
In the last three and a half years, DU has recruited 4,784 new teachers and promoted 7,423 faculty members. The university is developing its infrastructure at a cost of Rs 1,838.41 crore, which includes new academic buildings, research facilities and student facilities.

Skill enhancement courses and value-added courses are gaining popularity in DU.
