New Delhi [India] Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar dismissed rumors that Indian great MS Dhoni might retire from the Indian Premier League (IPL), saying the former captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) always disproves them.

He praised Dhoni, saying that he still has the potential to knock the ball into the bleachers and that age is only a number.

“Why should that question ever be asked? Why exert pressure on him? MS Dhoni always disproves everyone who questions him. Don’t question his skills. Even at this age, he’s hitting sixes during practice—not just over the boundary, but into the seats. “When it comes to Dhoni, age is just a number,” Gavaskar, a Jio Star expert, said on Jio Hotstar.

The former captain of India also discussed the aggressive mentality of the IPL’s hitters, stating that they know how to take advantage of the powerplay when there are only two fielders permitted beyond the 30-yard line. Additionally, he discussed how hitters aim to score 10–12 runs every over, which provides their team with a solid foundation for 180–200 runs.

“Batters are becoming more aggressive and daring. They are aware that they need to take advantage of the powerplay in which there are only two fielders outside the inner circle. Even if you only lose one wicket, you still need to get 60-75 runs in the first six overs and aim for 10-12 runs each over. That provides a solid foundation for pushing for 180–200 runs,” he said.

Legendary and Chennai Super Kings player MS Dhoni is just 19 runs away from being the team’s all-time leading scorer in the IPL. With 4687 runs, former franchise legend Suresh Raina is ranked first.

Dhoni, who is still going strong at 43, is a key member of the five-time winners’ hierarchy. Although he has continued to play the position of finisher for Chennai, his ability has diminished with time.
