Boeing Layoffs: US aircraft manufacturer Boeing has reportedly sacked up to 180 employees at engineering technology centre in Bengaluru. According to a PTI report Boeing which has around 7000 staff in India has handed pink slips to around 180 employees in Bengaluru as part of its global workforce reduction exercise. Citing a source aware of the development the report said that Boeing which has been facing multiple headwinds globally said that up to 180 staff at the Boeing India Engineering Technology Center in Bengaluru were laid off in the December quarter of 2024. While Boeing has not issued any official statement addressing the layoffs the source noted that strategic adjustments were made affecting limited positions while ensuring no adverse impact on customers or government operations. While some roles have been removed new positions have also been created the source said and added that reductions in India have been more measured with a clear focus on maintaining customer service safety and quality standards the source said according to the report. Notably last year Boeing had announced a global workforce reduction of around 10 percent. India is a key market for the US aircraft and defense manufacturing giant and the Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) in Bengaluru and Chennai undertakes complex advanced aerospace work. According to Boeings official website its wholly-owned engineering and technology campus in Bengaluru is one of the companys largest investments outside the US. Additionally Boeings sourcing from India is at around USD 1.25 billion annually from a network of more than 300 suppliers.
