Miami At the Miami Open, Novak Djokovic broke a tie with Rafael Nadal of Spain to beat Camilo Ugo Carabelli of Argentina, earning him a record 411th ATP Masters 1000 match victory.
The 24-time Grand Slam winner easily defeated Lucky Loser Carabelli 6-1, 6-0 in the third round.
With 409 Masters 1000 wins going into the competition, the Serbian trailed his longtime opponent by only one. After defeating Rinki Hijikata in the first round, he equaled Rafael Nadal for the most Masters 1000 victories.
With his 411th Masters 1000 match victory on Sunday, Djokovic, who has the most championships (40), finals (59), and semi-finals (78) at the Masters 1000 level, has now surpassed Nadal for the most match victories (410) since the series began in 1990.
“I feel privileged to have reached yet another milestone and shattered yet another record. Almost every time I play, there’s something at stake, which naturally inspires me to perform well in competitions,” Djokovic added.
Nearly 20 years have passed since Djokovic’s first win at a Masters 1000 tournament, and this is his 411th one. In 2005, the former No. 1 overcame Victor Hanescu in Paris to secure his first win at that level.
Since then, the 37-year-old has won a record 40 Masters 1000 championships, his first of which was in Miami in 2007. He was the only player to win all nine Masters 1000 tournaments in 2018.
In the round of 16, the 37-year-old Serb, who is competing for his seventh Miami Open championship, which would tie Andre Agassi for the most, will face another rising talent in 23-year-old Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the 15th seed.
In addition, Djokovic is attempting to win his first Masters 1000 championship since his victory in Paris in 2023.
