As a commentator on the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) vs. Rajasthan Royals (RR) IPL 2025 match, India’s renowned spinner Harbhajan Singh has been embroiled in controversy.
The former Indian spinner’s comment during the game that likened Jofra Archer to London’s famous Black Cabs caused a lot of controversy on social media.
Feeling that Harbhajan’s remark was offensive and inconsiderate, fans and users have turned to numerous channels to voice their displeasure and anger.
In the 18th over of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s innings, Heinrich Klaasen smashed two boundaries off Jofra Archer, which prompted Harbhajan to say the controversial statements.
Harbhajan made a comparison between Archer’s pace of run-throughs with the rapidly increasing charge on a black taxi meter, which has sparked fury and condemnation on social media.
“Uska meter, London mein kaali taxi bohot tez bhagti hai.” Aur ye aaj Archer sahab ka bhi meter kuch aise he bhaga hai (the meter in London’s black cabs runs so fast, and Archer is no exception today). Harbhajan joked, “He’s given up a lot of runs,” as reported by News18.
There has been a strong social media response over Harbhajan’s statement, with many people calling for the former Indian cricket player to issue an apology.
Archer had a terrible day on the field and unjustly earned a spot in the IPL record books. The English bowler set the questionable record for the best bowling stats ever in the IPL after giving up an incredible 76 runs in his four-over session.
Mohit Sharma, an Indian bowler who conceded 73 runs without taking a wicket, was beaten by Archer’s score.
Pacer’s day was doomed from the beginning, as he was methodically dismissed for 23 runs in the first over. In the second over, when he gave up 12 runs, his troubles persisted.
Unfortunately, Archer’s situation only got worse when he returned to bowl the 13th over, being hammered for another 22 runs. During the slog overs, the miserable Englishman was once again hammered and fell to another barrage of 19 runs to round off a very poor day.
