Congress MP has criticised the Union government for repeated adjournments in the Lok Sabha, suggesting that it is intentionally creating disruption to prevent parliamentary proceedings from going ahead. She accused the ruling party of finding excuses to create a ruckus, thereby hindering the House's functioning.

The Congress MP from Wayanad said the government seems to have made up its mind that it does not want the House to function.

The Lok Sabha has experienced multiple disruptions recently, with Opposition parties led by the Congress demanding discussions on various issues. These disruptions have often led to adjournments, stalling legislative business and debates.

The Congress also accused the BJP of raising a "fake issue" to stall Parliament after the ruling party created an uproar in both houses over the issue of reservation for Muslims in government contracts in Karnataka.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP and general-secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said, "Today, the BJP came up with a completely fake issue to get Parliament adjourned so that the very serious issue of Justice Yashwant Varma's conduct does not get discussed."

In her maiden speech in the Lok Sabha, Priyanka emphasised the importance of the Constitution as a protective shield of justice, unity, and freedom of expression. She criticised the government for allegedly attempting to weaken this framework over the past decade.

"They seem to have made up their mind that they don't want the House to function. It's been many days now. They find some excuse or the other to (create a ruckus)," Priyanka told reporters in the Parliament complex after the was adjourned for a second time during the day.

BJP members have been raising the issue of reservation for Muslims in government contracts in Karnataka and claiming that the state's deputy chief minister purportedly suggested changing the Constitution to accommodate a four per cent quota for Muslims.

Shivakumar, has, however, said he never stated the Constitution should be amended in any manner to offer religion-based reservation. In a post on X, he wrote, "A frustrated BJP, its State and Central leadership and its Union Minister, Kiren Rijiju are resorting to brazen and blatant lies to malign the Congress Party and me by falsely attributing statements to me.

"BJP and its lying ministers should know — I was not present in the Assembly when discussion on the Bill took place. I have never stated that the Constitution will be amended in any manner to give religion based reservation."

Historically, he said, Baba Saheb Ambedkar and the Congress framed the Constitution and the BJP's parent organisation (RSS) opposed it.

The ongoing disruptions in the Lok Sabha have raised concerns about the effectiveness of parliamentary proceedings and the ability of lawmakers to address pressing national issues.
