Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Kunal Kamra’s remarks on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, an old video of the comedian is going viral. The resurfaced clip is from his talk show Shut Up Ya Kunal, where he appeared alongside Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut.

Notably, this episode was shot shortly after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) took bulldozer action against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s Bandra bungalow in 2020.

During the episode, Kunal expressed support for the demolition and even posed with Raut in a photo session featuring toy bulldozers - seemingly mocking Kangana. At one point, Kunal even suggested that Sanjay Raut should be made the President of India. This throwback moment is now gaining attention as the comedian faces backlash for his latest controversy.

Now, Kunal is also being called a hypocrite on social media, as users point out that while he supported the BMC’s decision to vandalise Kangana's property, he is now speaking about freedom of speech after the Habitat Unicontinental was demolished.

Netizens argue that his stance has changed now that he is at the receiving end of a similar situation.

"When it suits their agenda, suppression is justified; when tables turn, they suddenly become champions of free speech," a user wrote on X.

Kunal Kamra's latest controversy

Kunal recently sparked outrage after mocking Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a stand-up comedy show. During his performance, Kunal referred to Shinde as a 'Gaddar (Traitor)' while using the song Dil To Pagal Hai.

Following the circulation of the video, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) workers ransacked the office of Habitat at The Unicontinental Mumbai in Khar West as a show of protest.

Shiv Sena party workers also gathered at the Khar Police Station to file a complaint against Kunal, while others approached the MIDC Police Station with similar demands. MLA Murji Patel of Shiv Sena (Shinde) was present at the police station, reinforcing the party’s call for legal action.

The Shiv Sena has strongly condemned Kunal's remarks, demanding his arrest and an apology. The party has also warned of further legal consequences if the comedian fails to retract his statement.

As Kamra finds himself at the center of controversy once again, social media users are drawing comparisons between his past stance on Kangana's bungalow demolition and his current predicament with the Maharashtra political establishment.
