Former President Donald Trump’s newly announced US Gold Card scheme — offering permanent US residency for $5 million — is already making headlines, with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick claiming that 1,000 Gold Cards were sold in a single day, injecting $5 billion into the US economy in just 24 hours.

Speaking on the popular ‘All-In Podcast’, Lutnick revealed, “The program will officially launch in about two weeks. Elon Musk is currently building the backend software for the system. But just yesterday, we sold a thousand.”

The Gold Card, also dubbed the Golden Visa, provides permanent residency with an option for citizenship, without requiring global income taxation — a major draw for ultra-wealthy global citizens. “If you are a U.S. citizen, you pay global taxes. But with this, you become a U.S. permanent resident, not a citizen, and avoid that,” Lutnick explained.
