Security experts from cyber security company Bitdefender have detected 331 dangerous apps on Google Play Store. These apps were doing ad fraud and phishing. This fraud has been named Vapor Operation. Let us tell you that Vapor Operation has been going on since the beginning of 2024. Initially, it included 180 apps that used to send 20 crore fake ad requests daily.
They use simple-looking apps like health trackers, QR scanners, note-taking apps and battery-saving apps. These apps looked like simple tools, but secretly showed annoying ads to users. They used to steal their personal information and even get credit card information. To stay safe from apps, download only apps from well-known developers and check the permissions carefully.
Turn on security tools like Google Play Protect, which check your apps and device. Always keep your Android operating system and apps updated to remove security vulnerabilities.
