Director of Silk Sunil Verma, who spearheaded the program, emphasized that silk is a symbol of Varanasi’s rich cultural legacy. Nearly 800 industries are supplied by the region’s 7,000 powerlooms and more than 5,000 handlooms.

About Rs 2,500 crores are made from silk garments each year, while Varanasi alone generates Rs 12,000 crores from silk thread. While the state’s yearly need for silk is 3,500 tons, Uttar Pradesh’s output has increased from Rs 9.11 crores to over Rs 252 crores during the last ten years.

Nagendra Ram, the Deputy Director of Silk, emphasized the introduction of the Chief Minister Silk Development Scheme as a way to increase output even further. The worldwide branding campaign will place special focus on Varanasi’s unique weaving processes, including fekwa, kadva, tanchoi, and kadhiyal, as well as its iconic patterns, including buta, jangala, shikargarh, and brocade. The goal of this calculated action is to establish Banaras Silk as a well-known brand in the worldwide textile industry.
