Delhi Capitals’ explosive batsman Ashutosh Sharma once again demonstrated his power-hitting abilities in IPL 2025, leading his team to a thrilling one-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants.
Facing a challenging chase of 210 runs, Delhi struggled early, losing five wickets for just 65 runs. However, Ashutosh, stepping in as an impact player, turned the game around with an unbeaten 66 off 31 balls, hitting five fours and five sixes. His remarkable innings secured an unexpected win for Delhi, as he sealed the match with a massive six.
The game, held in Visakhapatnam, saw Lucknow Super Giants post a competitive total of 209/8 in 20 overs, thanks to fiery half-centuries from Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh. In response, Delhi Capitals chased down the target in 19.3 overs, finishing at 211/9.
Amid the top-order collapse, Ashutosh built a vital 55-run partnership with Vipraaj Nigam for the seventh wicket. Despite wickets tumbling around him, he stayed composed and guided his team to victory.
Previously part of Punjab Kings, Ashutosh played a similar match-winning innings against Gujarat Titans last season. Despite his impactful performances, Punjab did not retain him, and Delhi Capitals acquired him for this season.
Born on September 15, 1998, in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, Ashutosh developed a passion for cricket at a young age. Inspired by fellow Madhya Pradesh cricketer Naman Ojha, he honed his skills in Indore. He initially played for Madhya Pradesh but had to leave the team in 2020 after Chandrakant Pandit became the coach. His mentor, childhood coach Bhupen Chauhan, provided unwavering support until his passing in 2023. Following this, Ashutosh shifted to playing for Railways.
With his exceptional finishing abilities, Ashutosh has established himself as a valuable asset in IPL 2025. His performance against Lucknow has reinforced his reputation as a game-changer, making him a player to watch this season.
