Adolescence is streaming on Netflix and the hugely popular crime drama has influenced politicians, campaign groups and viewers alike with its poignant messages about the troubles faced by young teens today. The series follows Jamie Miller (played by Owen Cooper), a 13-year-old schoolboy accused of murdering a fellow student.
Harrowing CCTV footage showed Jamie stabbing Katie Leonard (Emilia Holliday) numerous times following an altercation about online bullying. While Katie is only seen in person once in the CCTV footage, actress Emilia actually played a much bigger role in the series.
Episode two sees DI Bascombe (Ashley Walters) visit Katie and Jamie's school in the hope of gaining more insight into Jamie's motive behind the attack. At the end of the episode, fellow students and parents are seen laying floral tributes where Katie was killed.

Jamie's dad Eddie (Stephen Graham), who is still processing his son's actions, also pays his respects to Katie and her grieving family. While he is seen laying some flowers, a hauntingly beautiful song is heard.
The girl singing the song is Emilia herself, making the episode even more emotional. The choir accompanying Emilia was also the choir from the actual school used for filming, featuring children from the local area.
When viewers discovered it was Emilia behind the vocals, they took to X, formerly , to share their thoughts.
Adam Gillespie shared: "Had no idea and already thought it was an amazing series. Just adds another layer to the amazing show. Love it."
Gilly added: "That’s a thoughtful touch. Everything about this series was exceptional."
Yellow Mellow penned: "So much thought and little throughout this show."
This was not the only song Emilia performed, as the show concludes with an emotional rendition of Aurora’s 'Through the Eyes of a Child'.
Director Philip Barantini recently confirmed the significance of this choice, stating: “The voice in the score is Katie’s voice.”
After discovering Emilia's talent, Barantini and his team decided to have her record the lead vocals for numerous musical covers.
“Katie is a part of the whole series. Her presence is always there,” Philip said during a conversation with ’s Tudum.
