March 25, 2025 – Netflix has officially expanded its high dynamic range (HDR) support by introducing HDR10+ streaming, joining the existing HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats already available on the platform. This move solidifies Netflix’s position as a leader in HDR streaming, now offering all three major HDR formats to enhance user viewing experiences, especially for its visually rich original content.

HDR10+ Now Available on Select Titles

Netflix has started enabling HDR10+ on select popular titleswith plans to extend support across its entire HDR catalog over time. The addition of HDR10+ provides per-frame dynamic metadataoffering sharper contrast, deeper blacks, and more vibrant colors than standard HDR10. This is particularly useful for Netflix’s original shows and films, many of which are known for their darker, moodier visuals.

Powered by AV1 Codec for Efficient Streaming

Netflix is rolling out HDR10+ support using the AV1 video codeca modern, open-source compression format that delivers 4K HDR content with lower data usage. Originally introduced to optimize mobile streaming, AV1 now powers high-quality streaming across supported devices without compromising on efficiency or clarity.

Device and Subscription Requirements

To watch content in HDR10+users must:

Most modern smartphones, tablets, and smart TVs manufactured in the last few years meet these criteria, ensuring widespread accessibility for Netflix’s global user base.

A Step Forward in Streaming Quality

First adopting HDR in 2016 with Marco PoloNetflix has consistently expanded its commitment to high-quality video formats. While Dolby Vision remains the gold standard for many, HDR10+ now gives users with Samsung TVs and other HDR10+ supported displays an optimized visual experience without needing Dolby Vision support.

As HDR becomes a defining aspect of how audiences consume media, this update ensures Netflix continues to meet the evolving standards of both creators and consumers.
