New Delhi: When Punjab Kings acquired Glenn Maxwell during the IPL 2025 auction there were significant expectations for the Australian batsman. However his debut match for his former team was disappointing as he was dismissed for a golden duck after attempting a reverse sweep on his first delivery from Sai Kishore and was ruled LBW. Additionally replays indicated that the ball would have missed the stumps but Maxwell chose not to request a DRS review. This marked his 19th duck in the IPL the highest number for any player. Iyer hit nine sixes and five fours but fell short of achieving his first IPL century while Shashank Singh contributed 44 runs off 16 balls including 23 runs in the last over to finish the PBKS innings strongly. Shashank scored six fours and two sixes in his impressive performance. Meanwhile Priyansh Arya with a score of 47 runs off 23 balls aggressively attacked the GT bowling attack without concern for his reputation. Arya acquired by PBKS for Rs 3.8 crore during the recent IPL auction hit his first six off Mohammed Siraj sending the ball over deep square leg and then followed it with a boundary. Kagiso Rabada achieved the initial breakthrough by having Prabhsimran Singh caught in the outfield which allowed the new PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer to come to the crease. Iyer began his innings with an elegant drive for a boundary and followed it up by hitting the experienced South African bowler for a six over deep square leg. In the ongoing match 24-year-old Arya faced left-arm pacer Arshad Khan and scored 21 runs in the fifth over hitting three fours and a six on the off side. His most impressive shot of the evening was a remarkable straight drive past the bowler for a four. Arya hit a boundary through extra cover contributing to PBKSs total of 73 runs for one wicket during the power play. GT captain Rashid Khan introduced spin and he quickly took the wicket of Arya who had been gaining confidence. Aryas dismissal was a soft one as he edged a sharply turning delivery that also kept low. Facing Rashid Azmatullah Omarzai hit the star leg-spinner for a six on his first ball. Left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore then took two wickets in two balls dismissing Omarzai and Glenn Maxwell which brought PBKS down to 105/4 in the 11th over. However Shreyas had different plans reaching his fifty in just 27 balls. He hit Sai Kishore for a six over long off and followed it with another maximum accumulating 17 runs in that over after Marcus Stoinis also scored a boundary. Rashid then faced Shreyass onslaught as Shreyas launched two consecutive sixes off the leg-spinner the first straight down the ground and the second over deep wicket. Siraj was reintroduced into the attack and both Stoinis and Shreyas hit him for a six each.
