UPPCS Mains Exam: Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPCS)'s PCS is a competitive exam for recruitment to many posts like SDM, and DSP. Its main examination for 947 posts will be conducted from June 29, 2025. This is a golden opportunity for the candidates to appear in it to get an appointment in prestigious posts.
If you are also one of them, then first of all you have to carry out your preparation keeping in mind the changes in the exam. This will let you know which subjects you must prepare for and how questions are asked in the exam. Apart from this, you have to use your time properly, so that you can prepare well for all the subjects.
How different from IAS
Of course, the syllabus of UPSC's IAS and UPPSC's PCS exam is almost the same, but still one of the biggest differences is in the main examinations of both. While there is still a provision for optional subjects in the mains of IAS, there will be no paper on it in PCS. In its place, two papers of General Studies (GS-V and GS-VI) have been added, focusing on Uttar Pradesh-specific topics. Naturally, this step has been taken so that the candidates are well aware of the culture of Uttar Pradesh as public servants. However, on the lines of UPSC, the remaining four papers of General Studies in UPPCS remain the same.
Method of preparation
The removal of the optional subject must have reduced some burden on you, but now you will have to focus on the history, geography, politics, and economy of Uttar Pradesh as well as India. If you are preparing for IAS along with PCS, then you may have a double challenge. You can deal with it by making a good strategy.
Method of writing answers
First of all, understand the syllabus of both the question papers well. After this, read it by breaking it into different sections. Along with this, keep practicing answer writing of previous years' questions related to whatever you read. The more you practice writing, the better will be your time management. In the format of the answer, first the introduction, then the main points, and finally the conclusion must be written.
Focus on these
If your focus is only on the PCS exam, then you have to stay updated with the general knowledge of UP and the schemes and events related to the development of the state. Read every news in the newspapers carefully, especially every small and big event related to Uttar Pradesh and keep noting it.
