With more offensive plays and corner kicks but no obvious opportunities, Bangladesh was marginally superior in the first half. In the following forty-five minutes, India performed considerably better, applying tremendous pressure to Bangladesh, but there were very few opportunities.

Vishal Kaith, the Indian goalie, made a mistake in the 12th minute when he booted the ball into a player on the other team. Subhasish Bose performed a goal-line clearance after Mohammed Ridoy seized on the ricochet and shot a left footed into the open net from an angle position.

India’s greatest opportunity came in the 31st minute, but Bangladeshi goalkeeper Mitul Marma was unable to save Udanta Singh’s header from a cross from Liston Colaco on the left. Bose launched a bold long-range attempt in the 68th minute that beat the Bangladeshi goalie all the way but just missed the left corner of the net as India put up a dominating second half performance.

A Bangladeshi defender deflected Farukh Choudhary’s right-footed attempt five minutes later, just missing.

Star striker Sunil Chhetri had a clean header inside the Bangladesh box in the 84th minute, but his shot lacked force and direction.

On November 18, the two teams will play again in Bangladesh.

However, on June 10 in Kowloon, India will play Hong Kong in their next qualifying round encounter. On March 19, India defeated the Maldives 3-0, marking both Manolo Marquez’s first victory as head coach and the return of talismanic attacker Chhetri to international football.

India, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and Singapore are all in Group C for the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualification, and only the top side after six home and away games advances to the continental final.
