A new project in Agra, India, links the pay of sanitation workers to their monthly collection of at least 20 kg of plastic in an effort to improve waste management and sanitation in rural regions. With stringent accountability for officials and staff, the Panchayati Raj Department has ordered this action to guarantee that Gram Panchayats stay hygienic and plastic-free.
Sanitation staff must make sure that there is no apparent plastic garbage in their locations as part of this endeavor. The gathered plastic will be recycled in Khandauli and Akola waste management facilities. Raising awareness about cleanliness and proper garbage disposal is another duty assigned to Panchayat Secretaries and other authorities.
In addition to collecting plastic, sanitation personnel must keep up with appropriate drainage systems to avoid water buildup in ditches and on roadways. Urban municipal norms have motivated Gram Panchayats to work toward better waste management techniques.
The program aims to turn villages into model communities and is in line with the second phase of the Open Defecation-Free (ODF) campaign.”In order to get paid, sanitation workers must collect 20 kg of plastic each month. Manish Kumar, the District Panchayat Raj Officer, said, “We want to rid Gram Panchayats of plastic and dirt.”
