RJD leader Lalu Prasad was criticized by Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal on Wednesday for endorsing demonstrations against the Waqf Amendment Bill, referring to it as “opposition for the sake of it.”

Jaiswal stated that the opposition supports causes without considering their merits.

He told IANS, “Every change has advantages and disadvantages. Why oppose the Waqf Bill only to please one community if it is being altered for the better?

RJD leaders, he said, had joined the demonstrations in order to “please their Muslim brothers.”

Jaiswal drew a historical comparison between the amendment and earlier Sanatan Dharma changes. “When society saw that the Sati Pratha was incorrect, it was abolished. In the same vein, any modifications to the Waqf Bill should be welcomed. “Merit, not appeasement, should be the basis for political decisions,” he told IANS.

In addition, Jaiswal praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inclusive government and the Modi Kit project. “All 140 crore Indians are treated as a single family by PM Modi. The Congress erroneously claimed that the BJP would hurt Muslims, which kept them in dread for 70 years. However, there haven’t been any riots under Modi’s leadership, and our Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb has prospered,” he said.

He emphasized that all groups in India, including Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, and Hindus, had the right to live in harmony. “The Prime Minister’s vision fosters national unity,” he said.

RJD chairman Lalu Prasad and Bihar Assembly Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav participated in the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s (AIMPLB) demonstration against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 in Patna earlier on Wednesday.

Tejashwi Yadav spoke to the demonstrators in Gardanibagh and declared, “We are fighting for Muslims with all of our might. Even though he is ailing, Lalu Prasad has come to help.

He referred to the central government’s attempt to “break the country and end democracy” as an “attack” on the Constitution itself.
