The apex Indian cricket governing body, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is likely to announce the central contract for the upcoming season in between the ongoing . Earlier, the Board used to declare the contract before the start of the tournament.

However, the meeting with the Indian team management has not been possible yet due to the absence of Gautam Gambhir. The head coach is busy for personal reasons and hasn't had time to meet the board members. It was also revealed that the selection committee members have varied views on the future of some star Indian players. As a result, the new central contract may attract some tough decisions from the Indian board.

According to the Times of India, star players like , Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja may not feature in the top-tier Grade A+ contract. Furthermore, it was reported that players excelling in all three formats are most likely to secure the top contract. Interestingly, this move might be influenced by the trio’s retirement from the T20I format.

Meanwhile, as per Dainik Jagran, the might sack assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach T Dilip before the start of the Test series in England. While no official announcement has been made, multiple sources suggest that the board is considering a revamped support staff for the team in the upcoming series.

Notably, the meeting is set to happen in Guwahati on March 29 among BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and head coach Gautam Gambhir. The head coach has two assistant coaches, Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar. After going through several losses in the last year, the Board added Sitanshu Kotak as the team's batting coach.

BCCI to cut down support staff, fielding coach T Dilip's role uncertain

The Indian team has a jumbo staff with one coaching head, two assistants, one batting, one bowling, one fielding, three throwdown specialists, two massage therapists, a senior and a junior physiotherapist, a team doctor, a security and operations manager, a computer analyst, and a few logistical and media managers. Reports suggest that the Board is planning to cut the team short and keep the staff who are contributing to the team's success. 

Interestingly, the Board is likely to remove the positions from the support staff. T Dilip has been with the team for three years now. In place of him, Ryan ten Doeschate can take up his place as the fielding coach. The official announcement for this hasn't been made yet.
