There are 115 water testing laboratories in the state to get the quality of pure drinking water available through every house tap water scheme of Bihar government. In these, all kinds of quality of water can be checked. Of these, 15 district level water testing laboratories have received the Certificate from the National Acridation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).
The 15 districts of Bihar whose water testing laboratories have received the NABL certificate, including Bhagalpur, Ara, Sasaram, Banka, Gaya, Saharsa, Chhapra, Muzaffarpur, Munger, Biharsharif, Purnia, Patna, Begusarai, Sheikhpura and Araria have received NABL certificates. At the same time, the evaluation of laboratories of Buxar, Jehanabad and Arwal districts is going on, while the process of certifying the rest of the laboratories is also going on.
It is worth noting that water quality is checked at 16 standards set in certified laboratories. The state -level Chhajjubagh laboratory located in Patna, the capital of Bihar, 38 district level and under -divisional 76 laboratories are investigated on several standards. These include pH levels, TDS, conduction, turbidity, total hardness, total alkalinity, chloride, sulfate, calcium, magnesium, iron, fluoride, arsenic, nitrate, manganese and total bacteria.
The NABL Certificate is issued by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Under this, laboratories are recognized in accordance with international standards. It is worth mentioning that in the financial year 2023-24, 1 lakh 46 thousand 487 water sources, 34 thousand 379 schools and 44 thousand 052 Anganwadi centers were checked.
This initiative of the Bihar government will not only improve the quality of drinking water, but will also have a positive impact on the health of the people. The process of providing NABL certificate to the water testing laboratories of the rest of the districts will also be completed, so that every citizen can provide pure and safe drinking water.
