New Delhi: Abhishek Sharma has emerged as one of the most promising talents in recent years. As the Indian cricket team prepares for the 2026 T20 World Cup he is expected to play a key role in their plans. Hailing from Punjab Abhishek shares a special bond with former Indian great Yuvraj Singh who frequently praises his performances. Beyond admiration Yuvraj has also mentored and trained Abhishek helping shape his game. Yuvraj Singhs father Yograj Singh revealed that he had given Abhishek Sharma an important piece of advice which the former India star ensured he followed. During the COVID-19 lockdown Yuvraj went a step further by keeping Abhishek and Shubman Gill at his house ensuring they trained properly and stayed in top form. Yograj Singh shared that he had advised Yuvraj to keep Abhishek Sharma’s nightlife in check and Yuvraj followed it strictly. When Abhishek was playing I said if you could control his nightlife Yuvraj did exactly that and did not let him go here and there he said. Referring to Yuvraj’s strict mentorship he added He kept the shoes in his hands... the slippers that he talks about... so he turned out okay. Wild horses need to be tamed by catching their hair firmly. Abhishek Sharma’s former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Kane Williamson praised his batting ability highlighting his skill to adjust shots at the last moment while still generating immense power and finding gaps across the field according to ESPNcricinfo. He has got a great bat swing and is a natural timer of the ball Kane Williamson said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. He has got that gift of power but its not through brute force. It is through timing the ball and playing all around the ground which is a superpower in a lot of ways Williamson said. Comparing Abhishek to Heinrich Klaasen he added Its a little bit like Heinrich Klaasen. I mean different with the brute strength but the ability to change your options and score pretty much all around the ground. Changing your shot at the last minute—because youre not overhitting—is a skill that not many have. Abhishek had a phenomenal IPL 2024 season scoring 484 runs in 16 innings at a remarkable strike rate of 204.21. His explosive opening partnership with Travis Head was one of the standout aspects of the tournament. Later that year he made his India debut and carried his red-hot form into international cricket already registering two centuries in 17 T20Is with an average of 33.43 and an incredible strike rate of 193.84. Williamson recalled that Abhishek’s immense potential was evident even before his breakthrough season. When Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired him from Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) ahead of IPL 2019 he had played only three IPL matches but his talent was undeniable.
