Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Lucknow Super Giants, IPL 2025: On Thursday, March 27, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium saw the Lucknow Super Giants upset Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 wickets, earning them their first victory in the 2025 IPL.
After losing their first game of the season, LSG boosted their effort and put on an incredible all-around performance. David Miller struck the winning boundary as they successfully chased down the 191-run mark in only 16.1 overs. Miller, who was still undefeated at 13 runs, and Abdul Samad (22) stitched a match-winning partnership of 29 runs for the sixth wicket.
The visitors’ standout player in their run chase was Nicholas Pooran, who amassed an incredible 70 runs in only 26 balls while hitting six fours and an equal number of sixes. In only eighteen balls, he had achieved his fifty.
Mitchell Marsh scored 52 runs in only 31 balls, his second consecutive fifty of the season. He hit two sixes and seven fours. With a partnership of 116 runs for the second wicket, Marsh and Pooran almost put the SRH bowlers out of the game as they played a crucial role in LSG’s run chase.
On a batting-friendly track at the high-scoring location, LSG did well to limit Sunrisers Hyderabad to 191/9 in their 20 overs after choosing to bowl first. Shardul Thakur led LSG’s bowling assault with a significant effort and maintained his consistency.
While Avesh Khan, Digvesh Rathi, Ravi Bishnoi, and Prince Yadav each claimed a scalp, he was the best bowler for the visitors, taking four wickets for 34 runs in his four overs.
“I’ve always supported my abilities. Some swing, and based on my prior observations, Head and Abhishek like taking risks, so I figured I would do the same. I took my chances tonight because you can take wickets with the new ball when it’s swinging. After winning Player of the Match, Shardul said, “Bowlers receive very little in these types of matches, even in the last game, I said that pitches should be prepared in a way that the game especially hangs in the balance.”
Aniket Verma made a scorching cameo of 36 runs in only 13 balls, while Travis Head was the leading scorer for SRH with a 47-run knock in just 28 balls on the strength of five fours and three sixes. Five sixes were hit by him.
