Eid-ul-Fitr in Saudi Arabia: Official Dates

The dates for Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 have been officially announced by the government of Saudi Arabia:

  • Public Sector: The final working day before the holiday will be Monday, 24th Ramadan 1446 AH.
  • Private Sector: Employees will begin their Eid break after completing work on Saturday, 29th Ramadan 1446 AH.
  • Non-Profit Sector: Similar to the private sector, the holiday will commence after work on Saturday, 29th Ramadan 1446 AH.

Based on astronomical forecasts, Ramadan in 2025 is expected to span 29 days. The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics in Egypt has indicated that the crescent moon of Shawwal will form immediately following the conjunction at 1:00 PM Cairo time on Saturday, 29th March 2025.

This event signals the official night for moon sighting, which determines the beginning of Eid-ul-Fitr. Experts will closely monitor this celestial occurrence, as the sighting of the new moon signifies the end of Ramadan and the start of the joyous Eid celebrations observed by Muslims across the globe.

As the new moon is expected to be visible for a few minutes after sunset in multiple cities across the Arab and Islamic world, Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be celebrated on Sunday, 30th March 2025, in Saudi Arabia. The timing of the crescent moon is critical for determining the precise date of Eid.
