Alexandra Eala has shared the brutal consequences of her breakout run at the Miami Open. Before this fortnight, the teenage wildcard had only won two WTA Tour-level matches. But she went on an incredible run to the semi-final, beating three Grand Slam champions in a row.

The 19-year-old's run eventually ended on Thursday night as she lost to No. 4 seed in a tight three-setter. Afterwards, Eala opened up on the physical toll the matches took on her body, claiming she was "taped up like a mummy".

Eala became the talk of the town in Miami after reaching her first WTA 1000 semi-final in statement fashion. The world No. 140 took out former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko in round two before shocking recent Australian Open champion Madison Keys.

The teenager got a walkover into the quarter-final, where she , taking out world No. 2 and five-time Major winner Iga Swiatek in straight sets.

Eala was finally thwarted in the semi-final as Pegula outlasted her in a two-hour and 26-minute match, winning 7-6(3) 5-7 6-3. The 19-year-old had clearly been feeling the effects of her run - she sported more and more tape as the tournament went on.

By the time she was eliminated on Thursday night, the Filipino tennis star had strapping on her left thigh and ankle. Reflecting on her fairytale fortnight, Eala admitted she gave everything - even at the expense of her body.

"Of course, I'm disappointed," she started.

"But there are so many times in tennis where you have to dig out the dirt to look for the positive and now I'm enjoying it because there's so much positive around me and I don't know how many times that has happened, so I'm just lucky to have been able to experience these two weeks.

"The match I played was amazing and she played amazing. I definitely had my chances and I definitely have things that I could've done better, but I literally gave everything I had. As you see, I'm taped up like a mummy. I did everything and I have no regrets."

Eala, who is set to crack the top 100 when the rankings update on Monday, is now hoping to continue her momentum.

"To have a week like this, the stars need to align and they did this week, and hopefully I can keep that up - that is my goal now, to keep this up," she added.

The wildcard also left an impression on Pegula, who was impressed with her game. "She's just a really good player," the world No. 4 said.

"She reminds me of a Leylah Fernandez. Takes the ball super early, uses the angles really well, uses the line forehand really well, and competes and sees the court.

"She definitely takes the ball early, anticipates well, looks to move in. Yeah, all those things are going to take her far."
