In a major move one of Indias telecom giants Bharti Airtel has landed the 2Africa Pearls cable in India. Joining hands with Center3 and Meta Sunil Mittal’s company is the landing partner for the cable in the country. Notably 2Africa Pearls is part of the 2Africa subsea cable system which aims to be the longest undersea internet cable system on Earth. Spanning over 45000 km this cable system will connect Asia to Africa and Europe through the Middle East.
The cable system is backed by a series of major companies including Bayobab Center3 China Mobile International Meta Orange Telecom Egypt Vodafone Group and WIOCC. Alcatel Submarine Networks is the company behind the cable’s production and installation.
According to Director and CEO of Airtel Business Sharat Sinha Airtel is aggressively diversifying our global network. “We are thrilled to bring the 2Africa Pearls cable to India adding to our network resilience. We are aggressively diversifying our global network and recently landed the SEA-WE-ME-6 cable in Chennai and Mumbai. We will continue investing in global cable systems and future-proof our network with an aim to deliver high uptime reliability and superior quality network to our customers” said Sinha.
A company boasts a global network encompassing over 400000 route kilometers across 50 countries on five continents. Their infrastructure includes investment in 34 submarine cables worldwide with recent additions such as the 2Africa Southeast Asia-Japan Cable 2 and Equiano cables.
Airtels extensive global subsea network encompasses major cable systems such as i2i Europe India Gateway IMEWE SEA-ME-WE-4 AAG Unity EASSy Gulf Bridge International and the MENA cable.
