Delhi, For the next two years, Nepal’s men’s cricket squad will be led by former Australian batsman Stuart Law. He takes over for Monty Desai, who led the team for two years until his term expired in February.

The Nepalese Cricket Association wrote on X, “Head coach appointed.” For the next two years, the Nepal Men’s National Cricket Team will be led by Australian veteran Stuart Law @SLaw365.

Having worked with many international teams, Law brings a plethora of coaching knowledge to the table. In his most recent position, he guided the USA men’s side to a historic victory against Bangladesh in the T20I series and a trip to the 2024 T20 World Cup Super Eights. But in October 2024, he was fired after serving for little over seven months.

In addition, Law has been interim coach for Afghanistan and Sri Lanka and head coach for Bangladesh and the West Indies. In 2012, Bangladesh made it to their first-ever Asia Cup final under his direction. He has also worked with the Under-19 team and served as the national team’s batting coach in Australia, among other coaching roles. Law played in 54 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and one Test match for Australia.

Nepal had a period of consistent progress under his predecessor, Monty Desai. Early in 2024, Nepal had resounding wins under Desai over the USA (T20Is) and Canada (ODIs). Their efforts in important competitions, however, continued to be difficult. In 2024, Nepal participated in their second-ever T20 World Cup but lost all of their games. In 2023, they made their ODI Asia Cup debut as well, although they came home without a victory.

As part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2, Law’s first task with Nepal will be a pivotal tri-series against Scotland and the Netherlands in June. Given that Nepal is now ranked second-last in League 2, the next series will be a crucial chance for them to improve.

The next two years might be a turning point for the team as they look to advance in international cricket thanks to Law’s extensive expertise and Nepal’s youthful, aspirational roster.
