Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], — After the Chennai Super Kings’ defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Friday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match, head coach Stephen Fleming said the five-time champions haven’t figured out the Chennai pitch in recent years, according to ESPNcricinfo.

Since the MA Chidam Stadium benefits slow bowlers more during games, the Chennai-based team supported the spinners during the IPL 2025 super auction. They fell to RCB by 50 runs in their second home game in the 18th season of the lucrative league, however, so that was not the case.

The head coach said on the press conference following the game that they had no home advantage since they had not been able to understand the pitch and conditions in previous years.

“Well, Chepauk had no home advantage, as we have been telling you for a number of years. We’ve had a few victories away from home. We’ve been completely honest with you, but we haven’t been able to read. In recent years, we haven’t been able to read the wickets here. It is thus not new. According to ESPNcricinfo, Stephen Fleming said, “We are trying to come to terms with what we get every day, and we don’t know.”

Chennai’s strength from the beginning has been its spinners, but the wickets at Chepauk didn’t help them in the 2024 IPL. The seamers took 74 wickets in the previous league season, while the spinners took only 25.

“You can’t just go in and play four spinners like you used to at the Chepauk [of old].” The nature of each pitch is really different, and we’re having to put in a lot of effort to attempt to comprehend it,” Fleming said.

In the IPL 2025 match between the Super Kings and the Rajat Patidar-led team, RCB defeated the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team by 50 runs on Friday at Chepauk Stadium thanks to strong bowling performances from pacers Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal.

RCB leads the points table after winning two straight games. At Chepauk Stadium, the home field of the Yellow Army, it was RCB’s first victory over CSK since 2008. Patidar’s outstanding fifty in the first innings earned him the Player of the Match title.
