Indian Railways has long been known for offering affordable travel making it accessible to people from all walks of life. However in 2029 the launch of the Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas Express marked a new chapter in Indian railway history. It became the country’s first corporate train operating under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This initiative aimed to blend the affordability of trains with the comfort and services of airlines. Although the Tejas Express runs on tracks owned by Indian Railways its operations ticketing catering and onboard services are entirely managed by IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation). This semi-private model was introduced to enhance the overall passenger experience by offering world-class amenities. Encouraged by its success another Tejas Express was later introduced on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route offering the same level of luxury and convenience. Luxury and comfort on wheels Unlike traditional trains the Tejas Express provides airline-like services. Passengers are treated to: Onboard catering with freshly prepared meals. Personalized customer service to address their needs. Travel insurance included with the ticket. Compensation for delays making it the first Indian train to offer such a guarantee. The train’s interiors are designed for comfort and safety. It features ergonomic seats LCD infotainment screens automatic doors and bio-vacuum toilets. The coaches are equipped with CCTV surveillance ensuring a secure journey. Efficient and Punctual On the Lucknow-Delhi route the Tejas Express makes only two brief halts: Kanpur Ghaziabad It departs from Lucknow at 6:10 AM and arrives in Delhi by 12:25 PM. The return journey starts the same day at 3:35 PM reaching Lucknow by 10:05 PM. The Tejas Express cuts the time travelled between the two cities to 6.15 hours from the 6.40 hours taken by the Swarn Shatabdi currently the fastest train on the route. Redefining train travel The Tejas Express symbolizes a shift toward modern customer-centric railway services in India. With its premium facilities faster travel time and reliable operations it has set a new standard for railway travel offering passengers a blend of comfort speed and luxury. Tejas Express ticket price The Tejas Express ticket is priced at Rs 1280 for AC chair car passengers and Rs 2450 for executive chair car. However due to dynamic pricing the costliest Tejas ticket till now is Rs 4325.
