Lutyens Delhis landmark The Claridges will be run by Tata Groups Taj Hotels from next month. This is said to be one of the major decisions by the Tata group after Ratan Tatas demise in October. Taj parent Indian Hotels Co Ltd (IHCL) had announced a partnership to expand the Claridges brand with the signing of a 25-year management contract for The Claridges New Delhi starting April 2025. IHCL’s Managing Director and CEO Puneet Chhatwal stated that“India’s economy is growing rapidly and people’s incomes are increasing. As a result demand for luxury products is rising. This is the perfect time for us to expand in the luxury hotel sector. People now seek unique and premium experiences.” Happy about the deal Suresh Nanda promoter of Claridges Hotels Private Limited said “We are very happy to collaborate with IHCL. Claridges is a well-known brand in India famous for its luxury and excellent service. IHCL has expertise in running hotels globally. Claridges is also renowned for its delicious food. This partnership will provide an outstanding experience for guests.” The 1955-established The Claridges has seen a change of ownership in the past with Admiral Suresh Nandas family buying it from Arun Khanna in 2003. Now the hotel with 132 rooms and suites and many restaurants like Jade Dhaba Erawaan and Sevilla will see a changed management with Taj running it. A small paan shop outside the hotel is a big draw for Delhis whos who. Among its restaurants ‘Sevilla’ serves Spanish cuisine while ‘Dhaba’ brings a Punjabi-themed dining experience. The hotel also has a spacious event venue called ‘Viceroy’ which can accommodate 300 guests. For business meetings the ‘King George V’ boardroom provides a premium setting.
