Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Siddharth Shirole on Friday evening took to X (formerly Twitter) and informed that one side of the flyover from Bremen Circle to E-Square will open for traffic starting May 1.
Work on the remaining ramps toward Baner and Raj Bhavan is expected to be completed by August 2025, he added.
"This development will bring much-needed relief to daily commuters by easing traffic congestion to Pune's entry point and the city's busiest corridors. Grateful to all the contractors, authorities, engineers, and workers committed to making this crucial infrastructure project a reality," the Shivajinagar MLA further wrote.
Meanwhile, as per a study undertaken by Pune Traffic Police, the city has reported a significant improvement in traffic conditions over the past four months, with vehicle speeds increasing by 10.44% and congestion at key choke points reducing by 53%.
Manoj Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police, said the department closely monitors congestion through live traffic feeds from major roads, with a primary focus on 32 key arterial routes.
“Control room staff promptly respond to congestion alerts from live feeds, public complaints, and other sources by coordinating with ground staff to clear traffic,” he said.
Patil said that the police have identified 11 major causes of congestion in the city, including indiscipline at junctions, violation of traffic rules, potholes, ongoing infrastructure projects, heavy vehicle flow, festivals, processions, vehicle breakdowns, accidents, VIP movements, and malfunctioning traffic signals.
Commenting on this study, Shirole wrote on X, "No doubt, Pune has faced significant congestion and inconvenience over the past few years—given the scale and pace of unprecedented infrastructure development. This disruption is firmly rooted in progress."
"The Central and State Governments, along with local representatives, are working tirelessly to transform Pune into a world-class urban centre. As major infrastructure projects begin to take shape and critical bottlenecks are being addressed by the police and civic authorities, we are beginning to witness tangible improvements," he added.
"While there is still a long road ahead and many challenges to overcome, these early signs of decongestion mark an important step toward a better, more efficient Pune," the MLA further said.
