Uber is reportedly to launch driverless cab services in India. According to reports the ride-hailing giant has partnered with Waymo-- the Autonomous Vehicles (AV) unit of Google parent Alphabet Inc and recently launched self-driving cabs in Austin in Texas United States. However Uber is betting big on the AVs and is reportedly planning to expand its self-driving cab services across the US as well as other major markets across the globe including India. When will Uber launch driverless cabs in India? While no concrete details are presently available about Ubers plan to expand its AV services in India and other countries its pertinent to note that the company has partnered with several top AV companies besides Waymo including WeRide Waabi Motional Aurora and Nuro hinting at plans of expanding the services to other parts of the world as well as the rest of the US. As per reports Uber plans to launch self-driving cabs in other US cities including Atlanta Georgia and Phoenix Arizona in the coming months. What are Autonomous Vehicle and how do they operate? AVs more pocket-friendly than traditional cabs? Notably the biggest selling point of self-driving cabs is that they are a lot cheaper than their traditional driver-operated counterparts. While regular cabs charge around $2 per mile AVs cost less a $1 for the same distance. In a recent statement Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company plans to use traditional and autonomous vehicles simultaneously as part of its business strategy noting that AVs present a a trillion- dollar opportunity in the US alone.
