Mumbai: Ram Navami, a major Hindu festival celebrated across India with great devotion, marks the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Considered the epitome of virtue, righteousness, and dharma, Lord Rama’s life and teachings continue to inspire generations. The festival falls on the ninth day (Navami Tithi) of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Chaitra and is observed with religious fervour and deep reverence.

In 2025, Ram Navami will be celebrated on 6 April, according to the Hindu Panchang. The Navami Tithi begins at 7:26 PM on 5 April and ends at 7:22 PM on 6 April. Since Hindu rituals follow the sunrise-based ‘Udaya Tithi’, the festival will be observed on 6 April 2025. This day is considered highly auspicious for seeking Lord Rama’s blessings, and devotees believe that worshipping Him on this occasion brings peace, prosperity, and the removal of obstacles from life.

Ram Navami Puja Vidhi

On the day of Ram Navami, devotees begin the day with a ritual bath and wear clean clothes. The place of worship is cleaned, and an idol or image of Lord Rama is placed on a pedestal covered with a clean cloth. Offerings include Ganga Jal, Panchamrit (a sacred mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar), fresh flowers, and yellow fruits. A special offering known as Panjiri, made from wheat flour, is prepared and offered to the Lord. Devotees also recite verses from the Ramcharitmanas, and the puja concludes with the singing of aarti. Charity to the needy is considered an essential part of the day’s rituals.

Significance of Ram Navami

Ram Navami holds deep spiritual and cultural importance in Hinduism. Worshipping Lord Rama on this day is believed to invite blessings of harmony, happiness, and abundance into the home. The festival not only commemorates Lord Rama’s birth but also symbolises the triumph of good over evil. Worshipping Goddess Sita, considered an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, along with Lord Rama, is also believed to bring prosperity and divine grace. Many believe that such worship strengthens family bonds and enhances positive energy within the household.

Ram Navami is not just a festival—it is a celebration of righteousness, humility, and devotion that continues to resonate across time and generations.
