Late filmmaker Yash Chopra was one of the most renowned directors Bollywood had. He not only delivered several hit films but also launched some of the biggest actors and actresses in India. One among them was Poonam Dhillon. The actress was discovered by Chopra and soon she made her debut in Amitabh Bachchans Trishul. Over the years Poonam became one of the biggest stars in Bollywood during her time. During a conversation on Kaun Banega Crorepati Poonam revealed that just a day after appearing for her Class 10 exams she started working in Trishul. Did you know that Poonam was crowned Miss Young India in 1978? After Trishul Poonam went on to feature in other films. However her real breakthrough came when she did movies with Rajesh Khanna. The duo appeared in films like Red Rose Avam Zamana Dard Nishaan and Jai Shiv Shankar. Out of these six movies five turned out to be huge hits. Apart from Bollywood films Poonam in her 50s also appeared in regional films including Nyay Danda (Bengali) Yuddha Kaanda (Kannada) Ishtam (Telugu) Yavarum Nalam (Tamil) and 13B: Fear Has a New Address (Hindi). From the late 1970s to the 1980s Poonam rose to stardom with her remarkable performances in Noorie Sohni Mahiwal Teri Meherbaniyan Samundar Saveray Wali Gaadi Karma Naam and Maalamaal. While Poonams professional life made headlines her personal life was also under public scrutiny. She was married to Ashok Thakeria. However Ashok cheated on her and to teach him a lesson Poonam had an extra-marital affair with a Hong Kong-based businessman Kiku. Another interesting fact about Dhillon is that she was the first actress in Bollywood to introduce the concept of vanity vans in India. Poonam opted to transform a bus into a mobile utility van equipped with air conditioning and essential amenities like a makeup room and toilet.
