NPCI new rules from 1 April: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has recently issued new guidelines on Numeric UPI ID Solutions with the aim of enhancing the customer experience for payments related to UPI number. The new guidelines will be effective from April 1. It will be necessary for UPI member banks, UPI apps and third party providers to follow these new guidelines.

These UPI users will not be able to do transactions

According to the new guidelines, the UPI ID associated with the inactive mobile number will also become inactive. If the mobile number registered with the bank of a UPI user is inactive for a long time, then the user's UPI ID will also be unlinked and the user will not be able to use the UPI service.

The registered mobile number has to be kept updated

In such a situation, every user using the UPI service will need to ensure that the mobile number registered with his bank is active. UPI service can be used without any problem only if the bank record is kept updated with the correct mobile number. There may be problems regarding the UPI service related to inactive or reassigned mobile numbers.

These things have to be kept in mind

According to the rules of the Telecom Department, if disconnected, the mobile number can be assigned to a new user after 90 days. If a customer's mobile number is not being used for calls, messages or data, then such numbers are deactivated by telecom providers. These numbers are called recycled or churned numbers.

What is NPCI's new guideline

Under the new guidelines, the user's bank-verified mobile number will act as the user's UPI identifier. With which the user can use different UPI apps. On the other hand, banks and UPI applications will also need to update their mobile number records every week, so that mistakes caused by recycled or modified numbers can be avoided.

The application will need to take permission from the users before assigning a numeric UPI ID. Users will have to actively opt in for this feature, it is opted out in the default setting. In case there is some delay in NPCI's verification, UPI applications can temporarily resolve the problems related to numeric UPI ID internally. These cases will need to be documented and reported to NPCI every month for inspection purposes.
