The movie we are talking about is none other than Tohfa. Released in 1984 the film turned out to be a huge blockbuster. Helmed by Kovelamudi Raghavendra Rao the movie apart from Jeetendra also featured Jaya Prada and Sridevi. Made on a budget of Rs 4 crore the film earned Rs 9 crore at the box office at that time which would be equivalent to approximately Rs 140 crore today. The story revolves around two sisters who fall in love with the same man. When Lalita realizes her sister’s feelings for him she chooses to step aside and allow her sister to follow her heart. Tohfa was a remake of the 1982 Telugu blockbuster Devatha. The film earned three nominations at the 32nd Filmfare Awards including Best Comic Actor Best Music and Best Lyrics. Apart from Tohfa other notable films that also hit the big screens that year included Jeetendra and Rajesh Khanna’s Maqsad Dharmendra’s Raaj Tilak Amitabh Bachchan’s Sharaabi and Inquilaab Rajesh Khanna’s Dharam Aur Kanoon Awaaz Asha Jyoti Mithun Chakraborty’s Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki and Dilip Kumar’s Mashaal.
